Late Penalty

Who charges late penalties and at what rate?  Is it after the due date or do you have a grace period?

    Our due date is the 21st of the month. If the 21st falls on a weekend, it is the first business day following. On the day following the due date at noon, a late notice with a penalty of $10.00 is issued. Five business days later, a fee of $25.00 is charged, and a disconnect notice is given. If left unpaid or arrangements are not made within five consecutive days following the disconnect notice, service can be disconnected.

    The Town of Dixon charges the following for late fees:

    C. Accounts shall not be prorated and real property benefiting from services for a portion of a month shall pay the entire month’s fee. Charges for services are due by the 15th day of the month after the bill is received. A penalty fee of $3.00 will be charged per service on the 15th day of each month that the bill remains delinquent. Interest of ten percent (10%) shall be assessed to each unpaid balance.

    Our due date is the 25th, but we don’t apply our $10 late fee until the first Monday of the month following the bill. Any accounts that are over 30 days past due will receive a shut off warning on the 25th that they have until that first Monday to take action on the account or risk disconnect. Then we perform shut offs on any that have not paid or made arrangements to pay by that first Monday of the next month. We also charge a $50 reconnect fee.

    Powell Municipal Code 13.04.030
    All utility bills imposed by the city are due and payable by the tenth day of each month. If any customer shall fail to pay the bill within five days of the due date, a penalty or late fee of $15.00 or two percent of the past due amount will be added for each month or major fraction of a month that the bill is overdue, whichever is greater.

    We charge a late fee of $10, set by resolution.
    Payments are due on or before the 10th of each month. On the morning of the 11th, I process payments rec’d in the drop box then apply the late fee on those accounts that have not paid. There is no grace period.

    The Town of Encampment late fee practice is spelled out in our utility billing ordinance. We bill the last day of the month. Our due date is the 10th of the month. We charge a $5.00 late fee if an account is delinquent beyond 30 days. The late fees are assessed on the 20th of the second month once they are a full 30 days delinquent. If we shut a persons water off for non-payment or if we place a lien on a property for delinquency and water is off, the penalty changes to 1.5% of balance monthly. We have a turn on fee of $25.00 if they have been turned off. Turning it off does not stop the base monthly bill, it continues to be assessed. Accounts must be paid in full plus the turn on fee before restoring service.
